In this video I'm going to talk about the new "magic microphone" feature.
What is it?
Its the ability to be able to use the mic for zoom/discord.
Why use Magic Microphone mode
If you're recording the session; you may not want to record the room noise; when you're not speaking.
Take zoom as an example. If you record a zoom call, and have you mic as the input on zoom, then it doesn't matter if you mute your mic or not.
Yes, while muted, people on the call won't hear you, but the recording app will. You'll end up with all of your microhpone audio in that recording. SWBAC's new Magic Microhpone mode gets around that.
So in short; if you use SWBAC's route microhpone and mute; you'll get the same result in the recording as you did on the call.
Demo (see the video)
In this update, it has learnt how to be mutable, and also can do Push to Talk! Now you can use the routed-mic as an input; in a busy room; and your audience will only hear you when you choose.
- First; lets go to preferences, and we'll turn on the "show routed mic status in menu bar" option. This will give you some feedback about what state the microhpone is in (is it muted? not?)
- Now. Lets hop over to Hotkeys. These have been updated to give you more options & control. Notice there are hotkeys for mute, unmute, and toggle mute. This lets you assign a single key to something like a streamdeck, so it's a more "absoulte" action.... for example: TURN MIC OFF.
- Next, see Push to Talk. This lets you assign a hotkey combo that will "unmute" the mic when the combo is pressed, and mute it when it is released. Note: If you have PTT enabled; the other hotkeys have no effect. PTT overrides those.
- We'll assign a hotkey to Toggle Mute. And also one to PTT. Of course; choose something you're going to remember :)
Before we close preferences, lets make sure PTT is off. Closing preferences and looking at the menu bar, notice there are two icons? The normal one you see for the preview state; and new one indicating the mic state.
If I open up the UI and toggle mute; you'll see that top icon change.
You can use the hotkeys to also toggle the mute. I can close the window; and use the hotkey combo I defined earlier and the microphone is muted/unmuted.
Now, if we open up the app again, and this time enable PTT.
I'll do it from the main app area. You can do it from here; or preferences. It's the same thing.
Now; I have to hold down the PTT key combo for the mic to be usable (unmuted).
Notice that the menu bar icon shows when the mic is active. It is off (muted) by default, unless this key combo is held down.
Whenever the microhpone is muted; it will not be audible via SWB Audio Capture.
So if you're using SWBAC for Zoom/Discord input (as a microphone), you can now use SWBAC's mute behaviour if you want.
